Article 50 of the EU AI Act becomes generally applicable: the law demands transparency about AI-generated content, including visibly disclosing deepfakes.
TheHumanBehind is an independent, voluntary registry. It isn't an official EU registry, and registering doesn't by itself fulfil legal obligations. It's simply the public place that keeps on record who answers for an avatar.

A registry is worth exactly as much as its integrity. Ours is protected by design. Here's how, in plain words.
Your email, never public
The record is public; your contact details are not. Your email is never exposed, not even through the API.
Untouchable date and hash
The database itself forbids changing them, administrators included.
No ID document stored
Verification (this autumn) confirms your identity without us keeping your ID.
EU infrastructure
Cloudflare and Supabase in European regions, with row-level security (RLS).
Secure sessions
HttpOnly cookies; no tokens exposed to JavaScript.

- Is it really free?
- Yes. Registering is free, and so is checking verified profiles. Both stay free. Verification is an optional, paid step that arrives this autumn.
- Is this an official EU registry?
- No. TheHumanBehind is an independent, voluntary registry. It isn't official, and registering doesn't by itself fulfil any legal obligation. It's simply where it's on record who answers for an avatar.
- What happens to my data?
- Verified records are public; free records stay private to you. Your email is never public, not even through the API, and we never store your ID document.
- Can I prove I was first?
- Yes. The moment you register is sealed in UTC and protected by a database rule that rejects any change, including from our own administrators. That date is your proof of priority.
- What if you shut down?
- We've made a public commitment in our Trust Center: six months' notice, a complete open dump of every public record, and no selling the database to a third party without that dump first.
