  2. Step 2 · Instant

    Your dated record is born

    The moment you register, the registry issues your THB number, seals the date and time in UTC and computes a SHA-256 fingerprint of your record. From that instant all three are protected by a database rule that rejects any change, including from our own administrators.

    Share your proof

    Your dated record is yours to hold as proof of who was first. When you verify, it gets a public URL you can link from your profile, your website or your video descriptions, so anyone can check in one click who stands behind your avatar, and machines can too, through a free public API.

  4. Step 4 · When it opens

    Verify and turn the seal gold

    Verification confirms that a real human stands behind the record, through an identity check carried out by Stripe Identity. We never store your ID document. Your number, date and hash stay exactly as they were. The seal turns gold and your record goes public: listed in the directory and readable through the API.

What it looks like in practice

The same record works for very different creators. A few examples:

A creator with an AI avatar

A YouTuber whose on-screen host is generated registers it once, then links the record in every video description, so viewers can confirm a real person stands behind the face.

A studio with a voice clone

A production studio clones a narrator's voice with consent and registers the clone in the narrator's name, so the responsibility and the date are on record from day one.

A business with an AI agent

A company runs a support agent that talks to customers. Registering it names the business behind it, alongside the on-screen notice that you are talking to an AI.

The other half: anyone can check

A registry is only useful if checking is easier than doubting. Checking is free, with no account.

Independent and voluntary

TheHumanBehind is not an official EU registry, and registering does not by itself fulfil legal obligations. The European AI Act demands transparency about AI-generated content; this registry is where you put on record who answers for it.

Common questions

How much does it cost?

Registering is free. Checking a verified record is free for anyone, always. The terms of verification will be announced before it opens.

Is my email shown anywhere?

Never. Your record shows the responsible person's name, never contact details, and never through the API either.

Can I change my record later?

The registered snapshot, the fields covered by the fingerprint, is immutable: that's exactly what makes it proof.

The registry records dated declarations; it does not adjudicate. If a record concerns you, there is a claims process.

How claims work

Who can register an avatar?

Anyone willing to be named as responsible for it. You do not need to be its technical creator, only the person who answers for how it is used.

Does registering give me rights over the avatar?

No. The registry records a dated declaration of responsibility; it does not grant ownership, copyright or a trademark. It is proof of who spoke up first, not a title.
