Cookie policy
The short version: this website currently sets no cookies at all, and we tell you exactly what we store locally instead.
Last updated: 31 July 2026
1. What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser, typically to remember sessions or preferences and, on many sites, to track you. Local storageis a similar browser mechanism that stores data on your device only; unlike cookies, it is not automatically sent to any server with each request.
2. What this website actually uses
Today, thehumanbehind.com sets zero HTTP cookies and runsno advertising and no tracking of any kind. We do measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which usesno cookies, does not fingerprint your device and does not build any profile of you: it counts page views and referrers in aggregate, and nothing it collects can identify you. We also use three local storage entries, all three strictly necessary and stored on your device only:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
thb-consent-v1 | Local storage | Remembers your cookie choices so we do not ask again. | Until you delete it | Necessary |
thb-theme | Local storage | Remembers whether you prefer light or dark mode. | Until you delete it | Necessary |
thb-lang-v1 | Local storage | Remembers your language choice (English/Spanish) so the language suggestion does not reappear. | Until you delete it | Necessary |
None of the three identifies you, leaves your device or is shared with anyone.
That is this website, which you can browse without an account. The registry platform does set a session cookie, because a session cannot be kept without one; it is listed in full in section 5.
3. Categories
- Necessary, always active: your language and your consent choice. Without them the site cannot respect your preferences.
- Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics, added on 31 July 2026. It is cookieless and anonymous, which is why it needs no consent and why the switch below does not gate it. It stores nothing on your device: there is no cookie to accept or refuse. The script is served from our own domain (
thehumanbehind.com/api/rum) rather than from Cloudflare's, and the measurements are forwarded from our server. Cloudflare still receives and processes them as our subprocessor; only the download origin changes. - Marketing: not in use, and we have no plans to use it.
4. Managing your choice
You can review or change your choice at any time from the cookie settings panel:
You can also clear the entries directly from your browser (site data settings). Doing so simply shows the consent banner again on your next visit.
5. The registry platform
The registry platform at platform.thehumanbehind.com uses strictly necessary, HttpOnly session cookies so you can stay signed in securely, plus two functional cookies for your panel preferences:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
sb-…-auth-token | Cookie (HttpOnly) | Keeps you signed in. Set by our authentication provider (Supabase);HttpOnly means no script on the page can read it, and it is also SameSite=Lax and Secure. Signing out deletes it. | Until you sign out or it expires | Necessary |
thb_theme | Cookie (not HttpOnly) | Remembers your appearance preference (light, dark or system) in the panel. | Up to 1 year | Functional |
thb_locale | Cookie (not HttpOnly) | Remembers your language preference (English/Spanish) in the panel. | Up to 1 year | Functional |
None of the platform's cookies are used for tracking or advertising. The session cookie and the two preference cookies above are strictly necessary to provide a feature you asked for (staying signed in, keeping your chosen theme and language), so they are exempt from prior consent, same as the local storage entries in section 2. How sessions are protected is explained on thesecurity page.
6. Changes
If we ever add a cookie or storage entry, we will update this policy and the table above before it goes live and, where consent is required, ask you first. Transparency here is not a legal formality; it is the whole point of this project.
