Your account

An account is what lets you register and manage records. It asks for very little: an email address and a password, or a click on Google or Microsoft. Nothing about your account, including your email, is ever published as part of a record.

Go to platform.thehumanbehind.com/account/create and sign up with an email address and a password. You will get a confirmation email; click the link to activate the account. You can sign in before confirming, but you cannot publish a record until you do.

If the confirmation email does not show up within a few minutes, check spam, then use the “resend confirmation” option on the sign-in screen. The link is single-use and expires, so always click the most recent one you received.

Instead of a password, you can continue with a Google or a Microsoft account (shown in the interface as “Continue with Google” / “Continue with Microsoft”). Both go through the standard OAuth handshake: THB never sees or stores your Google or Microsoft password, only confirmation that you signed in and the email address the provider hands back.

If it is the first time you sign in that way, THB creates your account automatically, using your name from the provider (or the part of your email before the @ if the provider does not send one) as a starting display name. You can change it afterwards from your profile.

  1. From the sign-in screen, choose “Forgot your password”. You will be asked for the email address on the account.
  2. A recovery email arrives with a single-use link. Following it opens a short-lived, logged-in session used only to set a new password, nothing else.
  3. Set the new password and you are signed in.

For your own security, THB never emails you a password, current or new, and no one at THB can read the one you choose: it is stored as a hash, not as text.

Your dashboard settings let you choose the interface language (English or Spanish) and the visual theme (light, dark, or matching your system). Both are saved as preferences tied to your browser and apply the next time you sign in from it; neither changes anything about how a record is registered or hashed, they are display preferences only.

This is not yet a self-service action in the dashboard. If you want your account and personal data removed, reach out at privacy@thehumanbehind.com and the team will handle the request. What exactly happens to your records when an account is deleted, in particular any that are Verified and public, will be detailed here once the flow is built; until then, treat any deletion request as something to confirm directly with the team rather than something automatic.
